17 places to travel with your parents while in your 30s for fun adult vacations

Traveling with mom and dad doesn't have to be boring anymore.

I love traveling with my parents. Not only are they some of the best travel buddies because we all already know everyone’s quirks and limits, but it’s also extraordinary to see them push themselves to do things they wouldn’t normally do. While traveling with your parents may come with its own set of challenges, it’s also extremely rewarding. I’ve been very lucky to travel with my parents all around the world. I’ve hiked Machu Picchu in Peru with my mom, traversed Rome with both of my parents, and sailed around the Mediterranean on a Disney Cruise on a family trip.

Travel allows my family to make memories that will outlast our lifetimes as we share the stories of our trips with others. If you’re like me and in your 30s and want to travel with your parents, I’m sharing the best places to go based on travel styles and trending destinations for 2026 and 2027.

Cruises for adults

Cruise Croatia

Families looking for an adult-centered cruise on a small luxury ship will love Cruise Croatia. The stellar cruise line is known for its coastal cruising across the Adriatic with small ships accommodating fewer than 40 guests. Because of this, the entire experience feels more like a private yacht than an overwhelming mega-ship.

MAKE MEMORIES: America’s best family vacation spots, vetted by real travelers and families: FamilyVacationist’s 2026 guide

The newest ship in the fleet is the MV Aretis, which offers a sundeck and jacuzzi on the top of the ship, perfect for sunset views. Additionally, the ship has a swim platform for jumping into the sea and playing various water sports. When hunger strikes, head down to the dining room, where chefs present beautiful breakfasts and lunches made from local ingredients and paired with regional wines. Dinners are enjoyed in town so you can get a real taste of the Dalmatian coast. This area is well renowned for its oysters, so be sure to try some during the cruise.

Currently, the MV Aretis is sailing on weeklong cruises from Dubrovnik to Split, Croatia, or in reverse from Split to Dubrovnik. On each itinerary, your family will be able to enjoy daily stops for swimming, explore Korčula’s medieval streets, and visit Diocletian’s Palace in Split.

Cunard

If your cruise vibe leans more classic and elegant, Cunard is the best option. The opulent ships are known for their sophisticated onboard experiences (like enrichment sessions and ballroom dancing), delightful dining, and some of the best itineraries for adults without kids.

There are a handful of sailings that will please both older adults and their millennial adult children. One is the Transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2, which travels between New York and Southampton, England. Because this itinerary offers more sea days than a typical cruise, families can really slow down and enjoy each other’s company between space treatments, live entertainment, and exceptional meals.

Another great option for adult families is a Cunard cruise to Alaska, which offers a mix of nature, adventure, and plenty of time ashore to explore. Combine all of this with Cunard’s impeccable service, and you’ve got a fantastic trip for both generations.

Explora Journeys

Explora Journeys offers unique itineraries around the world. (Photo: Explora Journeys)

Explora Journeys, the luxury cruise line in the MSC Cruises family, is ideal for adults looking for an upscale vacation with incredible itineraries, outstanding service, and the need to unpack only once. One thing I’m excited about from the brand is the launch of its third ship, Explora III, in August 2026 from Lisbon. After the maiden voyage, the ship will travel around Northern Europe, Iceland, and Greenland on multi-day cruises.

What makes Explora III so exciting for luxury cruising is that it features a nearly one-to-one host-to-guest ratio, ensuring your every need is taken care of efficiently. The new ship has 461 oceanfront suites, along with plenty of ocean views in the public spaces, so you always have a great view. There are also five heated pools, seven restaurants, and 12 bars and lounges. A few new restaurants are coming to the ship, including Shore Club on 11 (poolside dining), The Chef’s Table (an interactive culinary experience), and The Cellar (a dedicated wine tasting space).

SET SAIL: 12 best family cruises and ships in the world

If you’re still not convinced, the incredible itineraries may help. Throughout the summer and fall, Explora III will embark on sailings that overlap with the upcoming eclipse, sail round-trip from Copenhagen, Denmark, and sail from chilly Quebec City, Canada, to sunny San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Riviera Travel

While you might think river cruising is solely for older generations, younger adults are getting in on the action too, which is why it’s a great option for a multi-generational trip. I particularly love Riviera Travel, which offers a balance between exploring new places and the convenience of your hotel floating with you.

Every morning, your family will wake up to a new town set along one of Europe’s iconic rivers. One itinerary that really stands out for families is the Blue Danube Cruise. The eight-day sailing is round-trip from Budapest, Hungary, and also visits places in Slovakia and Austria. Along the way, you’ll visit places like the Benedictine Melk Abbey in Melk, Austria; visit the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria; and take time to explore Budapest, Hungary’s castle district.

Iceland by expedition cruise

An expedition cruise around Iceland was a great way to spend time with my mom. (Photo: Megan duBois)

Iceland seems all over social media these days. My mom and I recently made our way to the land of fire and ice to explore via expedition cruise. While I love traditional ocean cruising, I love expedition cruising just as much. We sailed with Lindblad-National Geographic on a 10-day circumnavigation of Iceland cruise, similar to this new itinerary from the brand.

CRUISE DEALS: Kids sail free on these 8 cruise lines

On the cruise, I spotted wildlife like whales and puffins, hiked over some of the most beautiful terrains, and caught glimpses of massive waterfalls. We also explored the stunning capital city of Reykjavik. To take it up another notch, we crossed the Arctic Circle. Now I’ve crossed visiting one of the poles off my bucket list, and you can too. And of course, the crew invited guests to partake in a polar plunge in 44-degree water. This is a great activity to do together to make memories while you travel with your parents.

Even my sixty-something-year-old mom loved the trip. She pushed past her fear of open water to ride in a zodiac to get to landing positions. She also loved hearing from the naturalists who spoke every evening.

Wine trips

Sonoma County, California

Hotel nestled among trees
The MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa is a wonderful home base for a wine trip. (Photo: MacArthur Place)

Sonoma County is renowned for its wine, warm sunshine, and welcoming hospitality, making it a perfect getaway for parents and their adult children. Stay at the MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa, a wellness-focused luxury hotel set on six acres of gardens, and feel a world away from the hustle of wine tasting rooms. The hotel features 69 beautiful guest rooms and suites, all with bespoke amenities like custom bath amenities, a provisions basket, freshly ground coffee, heated floors, and more. There are also three on-site restaurants and a spa that utilizes herbs and botanicals grown on-site for treatments.

BIG FAMILIES: 15 best all-inclusive resorts for families of 5+

What makes this a good home base for a trip to Sonoma County is the access to nearby wineries. The hotel offers a “Behind the Cellar Door” package, which takes you to two wineries that are usually not open to the public, lunch at a local restaurant, and a few other exciting stops based on your interest.

Virginia wine country road trip

When you think of wine country in the United States, your mind may automatically go to Napa or New York. But I’m here to say Virginia wine country is worth building an entire trip around if you want to travel with your parents. Start your road trip at the Massanutten Resort, which acts as a gateway to the Shenandoah National Park. I like staying in one of the resort’s Regal Vistas, which are vacation homes with multiple bedrooms, a large porch, and beautiful views of the mountains. From there, you’ll be able to get to wineries like CrossKeys Vineyard and Bluestone Vineyards.

FIND A DEAL: 12 best hotel booking sites for cheap prices

Then, take the two-hour drive towards Loudoun County and stay in Middleburg, America’s horse and hunt capital. The historic downtown is lined with shops, restaurants, and of course, wineries. I love Greenhill Winery and Vineyards in this area. The winery’s sparkling wine was featured in the gift bags at the 2016 Academy Awards. Stay at the Goodstone Inn, a charming bed and breakfast nestled just far enough from the main downtown to feel exclusive but close enough that you won’t miss out on any of the fun.

Between wineries, you can visit historic sites like George Washington’s Mount Vernon, George Washington’s Ferry Farm, Chatham Manor, and more. Like most historic places, it’s best to get your tickets well in advance.

Big events worth planning a trip around

Formula 1 Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix

One of the most exciting sports events on the calendar this year is the Formula 1 Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix. The action-packed race weekend takes place from November 19 through November 21, right in the middle of the iconic Las Vegas Strip. What makes this big event so enticing for adult families traveling together is that there’s so much to do in Las Vegas, and then you add the high-speed racing, and there’s truly something for everyone.

There’s a host of ticket options, from luxury hospitality like Paddock access and a Pit Lane garage hosted by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay to more accessible options like general admission tickets akin to festival tickets rather than an assigned seat. But if you want a seat, there are plenty of Grandstands around the track, including one dedicated to driver Lewis Hamilton.

TAKE FLIGHT: 17 best flight booking sites for cheap airfares

Consider taking the whole week to really enjoy all that Las Vegas has to offer. Getting tickets for a show is a must, especially if there’s an artist you love at The Sphere. Of course, there’s also quirky Las Vegas museums like the Pinball Hall of Fame and the Neon Museum, and casinos galore for those who want to try their luck.

And when it’s time to finally rest, the whole family can have their own space at the Elara by Hilton Grand Vacations (no, you don’t have to be a timeshare member to stay here) with one large multi-bedroom suite, or smaller connecting rooms.

Domestic adventures

Cabot Citrus Farms in Brooksville, Florida

Families looking for a more low-key adventure will love Cabot Citrus Farms in Brooksville, Florida. The adorable outdoor retreat is just 90 minutes from Orlando, making it accessible for most folks in the Sunshine State, plus those who fly into the Orlando International Airport.

The 1,200-acre property offers beautiful two- or four-bedroom cottages, so while everyone is under one roof, there are separate spaces (something my family loves on vacation). Each cottage has a large living room, a full kitchen, and all bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms. Around the property, families can participate in a variety of experiences, from golf and bass fishing to hiking and racquet sports.

Think of this as a family-style summer camp, where everyone can be as active or inactive as they want, combined with all of the luxuries of home.

Fort Worth Stockyards in Fort Worth, Texas

“Cowboy Core” was a much-talked-about travel trend in 2025, but it still seems to be gaining steam in 2026, with more and more families trading luxury resorts for ranch stays and hands-on cowboy activities. For a mix of Texas “cowboy core” and modern luxury, book your next vacation to the Fort Worth Stockyards.

TEEN-FRIENDLY TRIPS: 10 best vacation ideas for families with teenagers

Around the Stockyards, there’s plenty to do, with 14 restaurants, 13 bars, shopping, and activities to please everyone in your group. Some of the highlights include catching a rodeo at the Fort Worth Cowtown Coliseum, the twice-daily cattle drive on Exchange Street, and trail rides near the Trinity River. I know my parents would also love the John Wayne Museum and some live music at Tannahill’s Music Hall & Lounge or Billy Bob’s Texas, the latter of which is the world’s largest honkey tonk.

Between shows, cattle drives, and exploring the lively streets, you can rest and recharge at Hotel Drover, which is right in the heart of the Mule Alley district. The rustic-luxe hotel is known for its Lobby Bar, which offers hand-crafted coffee in the morning and strong libations in the afternoon and evening. The property also has its own Lucchese Custom Collection store, where you can design a pair of custom cowboy boots to stomp around town in.

For a beach break: Oahu, Hawaii

Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa is ideal for Disney adults looking to get away
I loved traveling with my parents to Oahu and staying at Aulani. (Photo: Megan duBois)

Hawaii is a bucket list destination for many, including my family. We finally crossed the destination off our list in early 2024 by visiting Oahu. The island is the perfect beach break spot that brings together the excitement of a vacation on the sandy shores with the impactful culture of Native Hawaiians.

My family stayed at Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa. We were able to have breakfast with Mickey Mouse and his pals, who also happened to be vacationing at Aulani, at Makahiki; we snorkeled with thousands of tropical fish in a man-made lagoon; learned some Hawaiian words and learned the history of the Hawaiian language at the Olelo Room; and, of course, indulged in a luau right at the resort.

SAVE MONEY: Kids stay free at these 10 all-inclusive family resorts

For a different vibe, one without character meals or even kids, consider staying at Romer House Waikiki, an exclusively adult-only hotel. Staying here gives you access to everything from an adults-only pool to the beach. And don’t sleep on the incredible onsite restaurant, Izakaya 855-Aloha. Here, small plates infuse Japanese and Hawaiian flavors into a few tasty bites.

No matter where you end up staying on Oahu, I highly suggest renting a car. My family had a rental car for six days to get around the island. During that time, we hit most of the highlights and tourist stops, including Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, Kualoa Ranch, and more, without the nagging haste of large group tours. The perks of being able to stop when something looks interesting are well worth the rental car fee.

For a taste of the South: Bardstown, Kentucky

Downtown Bardstown, Kentucky

There’s nothing like Southern hospitality in the United States. That’s exactly what you’ll get at the bourbon capital of the world, Bardstown, Kentucky. Within the 16 miles of downtown, there are 11 different distillery experiences, a favorite of which is Bardstown Bourbon Company. Here, your family can indulge in a tasting experience, cocktail classes, and even a meal at the distillery restaurant. Just be sure if you drink at even one of the distilleries to have a designated driver or use ride shares to get around town.

SUN AND SAND: 10 best all-inclusive beach resorts in the world

After an afternoon of enjoying bourbon, you can head to Log Still at Dant Crossing for live music, explore the Bernheim Arboretum, and enjoy a multitude of restaurants along the charming downtown streets. Stay at The Trail Hotel, which is the only bourbon-centric hotel in the world. Here, you’ll have access to a bourbon butler who can arrange tours and tastings, five on-site bars, an upscale steakhouse, a speakeasy, a golf simulator, and more.

For a Florida getaway: Marco Island

JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort is ideal for a trip with your parents
Families looking for a slice of Florida paradise will find it at Marco Island. (Photo: Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort)

Marco Island is part of Florida’s Paradise Coast, known for its large chain of islands, beaches, and abundance of wildlife. If you’re traveling with your parents and looking for the quintessential beach getaway in the Sunshine State, you will love this area of Florida. There’s no end to the list of things to do in the area. The beaches have some of the best shelling in the world. You can also explore Everglades National Park, kayak in the ample waterways, and even play a round of golf. Of course, you can enjoy the beach with a chair and umbrella while reading a good book if that’s more your vibe.

TOGETHER TIME: 11 best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean

For the ultimate place to stay in the lap of luxury, check in at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort. If you’re looking for an adult-exclusive hotel stay, consider booking one of the 94 rooms at the resort’s Paradise by Sirene concept, available for those 21 years and above. Your stay starts with a glass of champagne at check-in and a dedicated concierge who can make any request a reality. You’ll also get access to Tesoro restaurant and lounge, a private rooftop pool, and an exclusive section of the beach. For a different type of adult-only fun, head to 10K Alley, the resort’s arcade and gastropub, which is exclusively adult in the evening.

For those looking to mostly ditch technology: Paws Up Montana

Let’s be really honest here for a second, technology is great, but sometimes you need a break from scrolling on TikTok or being glued to the TV to watch the latest viral Netflix show. Enter Paws Up Montana, a 37,000-acre working ranch in the heart of Montana’s Big Sky Country.

The resort is known for its incredible lineup of outdoor activities, including 100 miles of trails. You can also participate in archery, ATV tours, cattle drives, canoeing, fly-fishing, go-karts, custom hat-making, and more. This is a great spring and summer destination for those traveling with their parents. In the winter, guests can enjoy everything from tubing and ice skating to biathlon and dog sledding.

Additionally, the resort has a handful of different dining options, ranging in style from an authentic chuck wagon and lounges to fine dining and gourmet s’mores. Paws Up Montana has an official culinary s’mores program, and guests can go through three levels of s’mores certification to become a s’moresologist.

HOWLING GOOD TIME: 11 best Great Wolf Lodge locations in the U.S. and Canada

Accommodations at the resort include luxury glamping tents that are available to book from mid-May through mid-October. Tents have space for up to six people. If your family really wants to live it up, you can rent one of the 28 luxury ranch homes year-round. Each ranch home overlooks incredible vistas and has access to a Lexus SUV that you can use to get around the property.

Tokyo Disney Resort

Frozen-themed area inside Fantasy Springs at Tokyo Disney Sea
Tokyo Disney Resort is often regarded as Disney’s best theme park resort. (Photo: Megan duBois)

If you travel with your parents to theme parks in the United States, you’ll want to plan a visit to Tokyo Disney Resort. The incredible resort is everything you’ve ever thought of the quintessential Disney Parks experience and more. It’s got two sprawling theme parks and a handful of on-property hotels. I like to stay at the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel for easy access to both parks. A major reason to visit is Tokyo Disney Sea, which is arguably Disney’s best theme park to date.

Inside Tokyo DisneySea, I loved exploring Fantasy Springs, the park’s newest port (what the park calls “lands”). The port has four attractions and plenty of dining, all based around three iconic Disney movies: Peter Pan, Frozen, and Tangled. I was lucky enough to experience Fantasy Springs before it opened to the public, and it’s truly one of the most immersive theme park lands I’ve seen. If you only do one thing inside Fantasy Springs, I would highly suggest prioritizing Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey. The attraction retells the story of Frozen with some of the most advanced audio-animatronic figures from Walt Disney Imagineering.

DISNEY GUIDE: Everything you need to know about Disney Genie and Genie+

Over at Tokyo Disneyland, the iconic castle park feels similar to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. The park has some unique attractions that can’t be missed, like the popular Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast and The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents “Aloha e Komo Mai.” And you can’t go wrong with any of the food and drink at the parks and resorts. Treats like Mickey-shaped churros, Baymax-inspired curry, and Green Alien mochi are all popular with guests.

For a taste of the Mediterranean: Oia, Santorini, Greece

Santo Mine is an adults-only hotel perfect for a parents and adult child getaway in Oia, Greece
Explore Greece and stay at the newly-opened Santo Mine while traveling with your parents. (Photo: Santo Mine)

Imagine lying by the pool, sipping a glass of wine, and looking over the Mediterranean Sea as you travel with your parents. That’s exactly what you’re getting in Oia, Santorini, Greece. The village is known for its white buildings, churches with deep azure domes on the top, and its incredible views of the sunsets over the Greek Isles. The village streets are easy to wander around and get lost in. Shops and bars line the main marble street, though you may find better options down the little side streets.

While there are plenty of hotels around Oia and Santorini as a whole, Santo Mine is a brand-new luxury property in the heart of Oia. The resort is completely child-free, which is great for families like mine who don’t travel with children. The all-suite resort features accommodations with private plunge pools and outdoor spaces for family bonding time.

EASY VACATIONS: 11 guided tour companies that offer trips around the world

The resort has an incredible spa, the Pnoē Spa. Of course, there’s a variety of treatments available, but there’s also a sauna, hammam, and outdoor yoga sessions, which make the spa a full-day destination. Additionally, the resort offers an incredible wine cellar where you can learn about Greek viticulture. In fact, the wine cellar offers a taste of Assyrtiko, a white wine made from one of the oldest grape varieties on earth. I know that’s something I would love to do while I travel with my parents.

For glamping under the stars: Babanango Game Reserve in South Africa

Babanango Game Reserve in South Africa
Safari trips are a great way to build memories with your parents. (Photo: Babanango Game Reserve in South Africa)

Glamping is a great way to travel and get out in nature while still having all of the small luxuries of home. For a truly unforgettable glamping destination, South Africa’s Babanango Game Reserve is the spot to be. The Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal reserve is ranked as one of the Best in the World for 2025 by National Geographic and covers more than 20,000 hectares. While exploring the reserve on game drives or on foot with a guide, you may spot some of Africa’s most iconic animals, including the recently reintroduced African elephant. Giraffes, warthogs, leopards, and black rhinos also call the reserve home.

CLOSE TO HOME: 8 best Puerto Rico all-inclusive resorts for families

The game reserve has plenty of accommodation styles, so you’re not cramped in a tiny room while you travel with your parents. For a glamping stay at the Madwaleni River Lodge, which has 12 safari-style tents complete with a heated splash pool and incredible views. For a stay that gets you even closer to nature, consider the Matatane Camp, which the reserve calls a “back-to-basics wilderness experience.” Here you’ll stay in a fenced-off area in chalets and family tents, with activities like zip lines and walking trails close by.
