  • I’m a mom and a travel journalist who’s covered everything from ski resorts in the U.S. to sledding in the Swiss Alps over my 20-year career.
  • I know first-hand what it’s like to prep little ones for a day on the slopes, including what works (and what doesn’t).
  • These are my picks for the most family-friendly ski resorts in the U.S., where there’s supervised childcare, kid-friendly trails, and some of the country’s best ski schools.

Ask anyone who’s been skiing with little kids—or even suited them up on a snow day—and they’ll tell you that enjoying winter with little ones is a lot of work. It’s worth it, though. If you’re planning to hit the mountains for winter vacation, especially if you or your kids are beginners, it’s smart to opt for a family-friendly downhill ski resort (or cross-country ski resort) that makes things especially easy.

With perks like supervised childcare, kid-friendly ski trails and learning areas, and plenty of alternative winter activities like onsite snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and tubing, these are the best U.S. ski resorts from coast to coast for families who can’t wait to hit the slopes.

Snowmass’s children’s ski school is one of the most renowned in the country.
