If everyone in your family has been staring at their screens a little too much lately, it’s time for a digital detox. And the good news is that if you plan a vacation to the right kind of spot, no one will miss their devices. They’ll be too busy swimming, enjoying the outdoors, and spending fun quality time together as a family without the distraction of screens. Here are my picks for 10 family-friendly hotels and resorts ideal for a complete digital detox.

1. Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe All-Inclusive Resort

Cancun, Mexico

The toughest decision you’ll face here? Beach or pool (Photo: Victor Elias Photography/Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe All-Inclusive Resort)

Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe All-Inclusive Resort is just 10 miles from Cancun International Airport, which means you can have your toes in the sand not long after your plane touches down. The beach is even easier to reach if you book a room in the resort’s Enclave section, where you’ll have access to an exclusive lounge, a rooftop area with pools and a bar-restaurant, and a dedicated beach area. I suggest opting for a beachfront Enclave suite with a private plunge pool for an extra memorable trip.

Among the amenities at this all-inclusive resort are 13 pools, including a splash pool for kids; a kids club and teen space; daily activities at the main pool; and nightly entertainment. Eight restaurants and four bars include the not-to-be-missed Noriku, where the kids will appreciate the teppanyaki live cooking experience. Guests 16 and older can take advantage of the ultra-relaxing spa, which features a guided hydrotherapy circuit that will wash all your stress away.

2. Barnsley Resort

Adairsville, Georgia

This 3,000-acre resort in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains is only about an hour from Atlanta, but it feels like it’s worlds away. Charming (and recently refreshed) cottages and a village-style layout set the scene for a family vacation spent on the move and outdoors. Catch-and-release fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and horseback riding are just a few of the screen-free ways to occupy your time at Barnsley Resort.

Borrow bikes (or bring your own if you’re driving) to pedal around the property, or take to the more than 10 miles of hiking trails by foot. There’s a new family pool with a zero-entry, lazy river, and corkscrew waterslide, plus six new pickleball courts ready for action. Golfers appreciate the resort’s par-72, Jim Fazio–designed, 18-hole course, and everyone in the family can take a swing at the new 18-hole Himalayas putting course. Disc golf, lawn games, archery, and axe throwing offer other opportunities for a little family competition, while fire pits and s’mores kits make for a sweet way to end to the day.

Getting outside is also easy to do here, with opportunities for golfing, horseback riding, biking, hiking, and fishing.

4. Manasota Beach Club

The term “Old Florida” gets thrown around a lot, but Manasota Beach Club lives up to the description. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Manasota Key property on Florida’s Gulf Coast has been welcoming guests for more than six decades. People come here to spend time on the quiet beach, hunting for shells and fossilized sharks teeth. Guests stay in a collection of rooms and cottages, many of which have wood-paneled walls and ceilings and views of the Gulf of Mexico, and some of which have kitchens for making family vacations a little easier.

Beyond the beach, there’s a heated pool, tennis and pickleball courts, and kayaks and paddleboards for getting out on the water. The property is still dealing with some needed repairs to its clubhouse after the 2024 hurricane season, and there’s currently not a restaurant on-site. But for a throwback-style seaside vacation filled with simple pleasures rather than techy-touches, Manasota Beach Club delivers.

Days are spent here snorkeling coral reefs just offshore, kayaking and paddleboarding the calm turquoise waters, and biking around the uncrowded locale that’s the seventh-largest island in the Turks and Caicos archipelago.

Tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts; a soccer pitch; bocce ball; and a fitness center help everyone in the family stay active. Book a guided tour or boating excursion to learn more about the area, or you can just chill out at the resort with a complimentary yoga and meditation session, spa treatment, or a little time in a water hammock. And with American Airlines’ direct flights from Miami to South Caicos on Wednesdays and Saturdays, getting to the island is a breeze.

Reef Haven Belize was created with the goal of helping guests pause, breathe, reconnect, and relax. The new all-inclusive resort sits just offshore from Ambergris Caye, and guests are welcomed at John Greif II Airport with Belizean fruit punch and a cool towel before the boat ride to Reef Haven.

The natural surroundings inspired the design of the resort’s 55 one- and two-bedroom suites, some of which have ocean views. Why would you want to stare at a screen when you can be staring at mountain vistas instead? Set within 860 acres of ponderosa pines, YMCA of the Rockies–Estes Park Center is bordered on three sides by Rocky Mountain National Park. Expert “Hikemasters” lead hikes on guests, or it’s easy to head out and explore on your own.

Many of the cabins intentionally don’t have televisions, encouraging the family to take part in activities like archery, disc golf, mini-golf, arts and crafts, and yoga. During the winter there’s also snowshoeing and sledding, while the warmer months mean options like fishing and horseback riding. It’s all got a summer camp kind of feeling where parents, grandparents, and kids can connect around a campfire or watch for wildlife together. YMCA of the Rockies also has a Snow Mountain Ranch location that offers a similar experience.
